There are a lot of questions that come to mind when it comes to Disney World such as ‘when was Disney World built’ or ‘when did Disney World open.’ Even after how many decades of being in operation and even with the number of theme parks that have opened, the place still sparks the interest of people of all ages. They never get tired of seeing the classic and magical feeling the whole place gives.
1971 was the opening of Disney World but the construction process began years before that. In 1955, the Disneyland Park in California opened. It was something new for the people yet it wasn’t enough. By 1959, Walt Disney, the man who conceptualized it all, had set his sights upon searching for a new piece of land which would be the place to hold the grandest Disney paradise there is.
When Did Disney World Open?
Eventually, he chose Orlando and little by little, his corporation bought the land. It ended up that they had bought 27,000 acres of land. Unfortunately, in the year 1966, Roy Disney led the way in building Disney World because of the fact that Walt Disney passed away. Although he had gone, his vision was turned into reality in October 1971, when the park opened.
Shortly after that, Epcot opened in 1982 as Walt Disney’s world of the future. Then, it was followed by Disney Hollywood Studios—previously known as Disney MGM Studios—in 1989 and Animal Kingdom in 1998. In the midst of all of these, other recreation areas opened inside the park such as resorts, hotels, water parks and many more.
Since the WDW is split into several theme parks, the construction and opening of each varies. Now, people don’t have to worry about asking ‘when was Walt Disney World built or opened,’ because all they have to focus on is have fun and wait for more attractions in the future!
