Uncover What is Fact and What is Fiction in Disneyworld

Year in, year out, travelers have walked in and out of Disneyworld, abuzz with “Disney World secrets” – urban legends of myths about the magical theme park “where all your dreams come true.” From childhood, we have heard about these tales: the fairy who will grant you three wishes if you catch her in Cinderella’s Castle, the underground tunnels running the length of the theme park, the Hidden Mickeys. But often, these legends remain unanswered and are left to the realm of speculation.

Well, those days are over. Here are some of the answers to Disney World’s best-kept secrets.

Best-Kept Secrets of Disney World Revealed!

1. Claim: There are underground tunnels at Disney World.
Fact or Fiction: Fact!
Yes, indeed, there are underground tunnels underneath the theme park. Called the “Utilidor”, it can be found underneath the Magic Kingdom. These tunnels were built to allow Disney World’s cast and crew to travel to different areas unseen. Walt Disney thought that it would ruin the customer’s experience to see a princess in cowboy land, for example. The tunnels’ central hub is located below the Cinderella’s Castle and leads to all the other lands in Disney World except Mickey’s Toontown Fair. It is also interesting to note that the cast and crew travel back and forth by electric vehicles that look like golf carts.

2. Claim: Main Street magically expands when you’re walking towards Cinderella’s Castle and shortens when you leave
Fact or Fiction: Fiction.
Main Street was designed in a way that would give the audience an optical illusion. Second floor windows are smaller than first floor ones and all buildings tilt towards the castle, giving it a “never-ending” look.

3. Claim: Hidden Mickeys
Fact or Fiction: Fact
There are Hidden Mickeys littered almost everywhere in Disney World, you just have to keep your eyes peeled! Some can only be discovered by air.

4. Claim: Catch a fairy in Cinderella’s Castle and you’ll get three wishes.
Fact or Fiction: Fiction
Sorry, folks. Even Disney World can’t conjure up that kind of magic.
