History Of Walt Disney World: The Basics
Being one of the largest recreational sites in the world, one can’t help but wonder about the history of the Walt Disney World. How did it begin? How was it conceptualized? When did it first open? That and other questions come into mind whenever one wonders about this subject matter. With that, let us explore the beginnings of this marvellous getaway in Florida.
Firstly, the whole park is ran by the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts which is a branch of The Walt Disney Company. The whole Disney World is composed of four theme parks—Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney MGM Studios and Epcot—each having different themes. It also has two water parks and twenty-three hotels. Other things that can be found at this site are a huge number of souvenir shops, restaurants and entertainment auditoriums.
Because of the need to expand for a larger target market, Walt Disney himself wanted to find another place to build yet another Disney theme park after the one that opened in California. In 1959, surveys that were conducted stated that Disneyland had only a limited number of visitors because of the company’s competitions. Other theme parks and recreation areas have been established around the area. With this, Disney hoped to find yet another site where they could attract more tourists.
History Of Walt Disney World: The Whole Story
After visiting a number of sites around the United States, Walt Disney was bent upon the site in Florida. There he saw an area fully developed with good infrastructures—such as roads and hotels—and also an airport. He became fully enthusiastic with the project and focused all his concentration there. He had a vision which he was determined to bring to life. Unfortunately, he died in 1966 and was unable to see this dream emerge.
When Walt Disney died, it was his brother and business partner Roy Disney who did his best to continue his departed sibling’s legacy. He foresaw the construction of the enormous tourist spot. A number of professionals—such as, engineers, architects and many more—were hired to help build and corporations were sought to fund the whole project.
After all the efforts that flowed into this, Roy Disney inaugurated and dedicated the whole theme park to his brother, Walt Disney, who conceptualized the whole idea of this gigantic theme park. At the same time, the place was coined as Walt Disney World to emphasize the man who started everything.
With the succeeding years, Walt Disney World gained much prestige from around the world. The place has become a grand tourist paradise for both adults and children from different countries. Also, the construction of new parks and the maintenance of different attractions have been ongoing for the convenience of customers.
Aside from the resorts and hotels, including the Magic Kingdom park, Disney’s vision of a world of the future was made real with the establishment of the EPCOT center in 1982. It later on adopted the name Epcot in 1996. It was had been established and funded by different corporations to operate.
In addition, Disney MGM Studios was made in honor of Hollywood in 1989. Later in 2008, its name was altered to Disney Hollywood Studios. The lastest addition to the whole theme park is the Animal Kingdom which opened 1998. Until today, Walt Disney World’s history continues with all its local and international visitors and the building of other structures, which in turn, contribute to its own magical tale.
